Vic Branch: Glorious Gippsland garden tour

Bus trip to Gippsland gardens.
Gippsland – the Gunaikurnai people are recognised as Traditional Owners of a large area of the land. European settlement came about with explorer Paul Strzelecki from Poland in 1840 discovering the land and named it Gippsland, after NSW Governor George Gipps. Scotsman, Angus McMillan, he too made the discovery in 1840. The central plain was rapidly settled by Scottish and English squatters.
Gardens to be visited include historic The Holey Plain, Boisdale Homestead, Bon Accord, Homelea, Kilmany. Private charter boat Rubeena will take us from the Port of Sale to the La Trobe Swing Bridge for 3pm opening. Friends of the Sale Botanic Gardens guided tour will tell us of areas of significance and William Guilfoyle’s influence. Lakes Guthridge and Guyatt can be strolled at your leisure.
Accommodation is at the Matador Motel in Sale, very close to the Botanic Gardens and the Port. Dinner at the Criterion Hotel will be at your own expense.
Cost: AGHS members $425, non-members $475. Single supplement $65.

Departure: 8.15am arrive to Russell Street Extension, Coach Pickup (behind Federation Square). Please be on time for Coach departure at 8.30am Saturday.
Return: 5.30pm Sunday.
Includes: Entry fees, lunches, all teas, garden and history notes, coach and accommodation.
Bring: overnight luggage, AGHS name badge, water, mask, hand sanitiser, insect repellent, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen and hat.
Note: Lots of uneven ground so travellers will need to be capable and prepared. Itinerary subject to change at the organisers’ discretion.
