Bundanoon in the Southern Highlands of NSW, like so many places across Australia, was badly affected by the 2019/20 bushfire season. The local Bundanoon History Group decided to convene a bushfire archive project to record the disaster. Capturing oral histories formed a major component of the project. Despite the restrictions of COVID, BHG volunteers were able to interview 31 people and record their responses to the Morton Fire. The video demonstrates the power of oral history and gives viewers a taster of what is available in the full archive, which can be found at https://bundanoonhistory.org.au/bushfires-2020/
Reminding people of the horror of bushfire presents dilemmas. Can this revive the trauma or does it prevent complacency? If you have a view, please add comments under the video on the Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hUUeOyCAIE&t=26s
