Tasmania Branch: AGM & Third Winter Lecture

3 September 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

Following the AGM of the Tasmanian branch of the AGHS, Anne McConnell, a Hobart-based heritage practitioner for some thirty years, will discuss the cultural landscape values of Cambria, considered one of the most significant heritage estates on the East Coast. She will also explore the ramifications for protecting its cultural landscape values using the state level and statutory planning mechanisms.

George Meredith, a person of significance in the colony of Van Diemen’s Land, began planning the Cambria house and gardens soon after he arrived on site in 1821. In its day it was considered the government house of the East Coast. The proposed Cambria Green development, currently under planning review, includes this once grand early settlement.

The lecture is followed by afternoon tea. All welcome & free admission.

Venue: Tasmanian Bridge Association, 5 Marine Esplanade, New Town Bay.

Book: at Trybooking. Bookings are requested for seating and catering purposes.

Enquiries: Wyn Manners eventsaghstas@gmail.com.
