Heritage consultant Flavia Scardamaglia gives a re-introduction to Leslie Wilkinson, best-known as the first Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney. A leading and influential figure in Australian architecture, whose innovative approach combined our colonial heritage with Mediterranean influences he had experienced on his travels.
She will discuss his ideas and role as a garden-maker and designer. A 2022 Heritage Study Flavia prepared for Woollahra Municipal Council focused on his extensive output of new houses, flats and gardens, alterations and extensions to existing ones, from 1922 and 1973. And his many university buildings and courtyards, churches, memorials and other design work.
His home, ‘Greenway’ at Vaucluse, AGHS Sydney has had the joy of visiting before. Learn more about this man, a love for Mediterranean architecture and gardens, and influence across Woollahra, and in Sydney.
