Marilyn Pidgeon interviewed on 1 May 2024 by Liz Chappell with Lynne Walker

Synopsis

Marilyn Pidgeon recounts how her childhood in Tasmania inspired the creation of her later much visited and admired Armidale garden and led to the writing of her gardening book for the New England region: Gardening Secrets: Successful Gardeners show how they cope with the Variable Australian Climate. An awareness of gardening and the broader landscape underpinned Marilyn’s three terms as councillor on the Armidale City Council where she chaired committees to combat eucalyptus dieback in the region and to establish the Armidale arboretum.  She was the inaugural regional chair of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme and later established the first commercial paeony farm in Northern NSW.
