Tasmania Branch: People, places and stories – Longford, Launceston and surrounds

18 May - 19 May

Longford House

People, places and stories combines the first of our 2024 Winter Lectures with visits to four historic properties in the Longford & Launceston areas.

Saturday’s program commences at 11am in Longford with a tour of the extensive gardens of Longford House, noted for their symmetry, established oaks & yews, & Hawthorne hedges. Enjoy your BYO lunch here before driving to picturesque Illawarra church & cemetery. Then on to Kilgour House with sweeping lawns & classically formal gardens & afternoon tea to finish the day.

Substantial canapes & drinks at The Launceston Club from 5.45pm are an optional extra.

A visit to Claremont, hidden away amongst the seclusion of the 100-year-old trees & set on approximately one & half acres of tranquil gardens in East Launceston, follows the lecture & lunch at the Tramsheds on Sunday and concludes the weekend.

Every garden is a story
Jean Elder in conversation with Meg Bignell & Alice Bennett, author and photographer of the book Tasmanian Gardens at the Tramsheds on Sunday morning at 10.30am. Followed by Emma van Lint, landscape architect and Urban Forester with Launceston City Council: Greening the Urban Canopy.
