Tasmania Branch: Winter Lecture 1 – Clive Blazey – We speak for the trees
12 June 2022 @ 2:00 pm AEST
Hear Clive Blazey of the Diggers Club speak about his new book ‘We Speak for the Trees‘.
“By planting trees, we can all play our part to accelerate the drawdown of carbon. Now, more than ever, we must all speak up for the trees.” Clive Blazey AM
Inspired by David Attenborough and renowned Australian climate experts, Clive’s eighth book is a gardener’s guide to achievable solutions for the global climate change crisis. Planting trees and gardening sustainably are some of the simplest solutions for carbon drawdown.
The book contains detailed information on almost 100 ornamental, fruit and nut trees selected for climate suitability, shade, habitat protection and bushfire prevention. All the listed trees are growing in one of The Diggers Foundation’s gardens. These trees have provided valuable, first-hand knowledge through their planting, trialling and careful study.
Clive Blazey and the Diggers Club
Clive and Penny Blazey started The Diggers Club in 1978, selling seeds via a mail order catalogue. The Diggers Club inspires and educates gardeners to create beautiful and productive gardens and is proud to be Australia’s largest gardening community, supporting more than 85,000 Diggers members Australia wide. Today there are three Diggers properties in Victoria, all with extensive and important gardens. In 2011, ownership of The Diggers Club passed to The Diggers Foundation, which is a registered not-for-profit charity. The Foundation was established to ensure Clive and Penny Blazey’s work in heirloom seeds and garden preservation continues through the generations.
